These wide brimmed hats are woven from caña flecha by the indigenous Zenú in the Cordoba region of Colombia. Caña flecha is the wild cane grass or arrow grass grown in parts of Colombia, Brazil and Peru.  It takes several weeks to make the Sombrero de Playa; from harvest to dying the reeds and to the actual weaving. After obtaining the desired colors, the weavers braid the strips of the cana flecha beginning with the olma or the top of the hat, incorporating their own specific designs and patterns. The Sombrero de Playa is a combination of practical and chic.
